Interview with Emma Campbell : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Emma Campbell : The main idea and inspiration for this project is that the world is slowly turning into a complete digital realm and it is important not to forget about printed media. When things are tangible and able to be held they are more memorable and there is just something special about holding onto something that is printed. .Frank Scott: What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?. Emma Campbell : My end goal was to create a publication of my work that an employer would want to keep at the end of a job interview. I did not want to be just another potential team member. I wanted to be remembered and creating this portfolio was a way that I could achieve this. I ended up creating something that speaks about my design and illustration styles but is also carefully crafted and could be added to any bookshelf. .Frank Scott: What are your future plans for this award winning design?. Emma Campbell : I would love to keep using this portfolio and to each year create a new and updated version. Now that I have a starting concept that I am proud of, I'd like to keep pushing the design and create something even more interactive and eye catching. .Frank Scott: How long did it take you to design this particular concept?. Emma Campbell : I designed this over the course of a month. It was a difficult task because I kept wanting to push myself and create something beautiful and that I was proud of. .Frank Scott: Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?. Emma Campbell : This was a personal project for myself. I designed it after a graduated university so it was my way of entering the job market. It also gave me a chance to really push my publication and design skills. .Frank Scott: What made you design this particular type of work?. Emma Campbell : I wanted to stand out in the job market. I had seen a lot of beautifully crafted portfolio designs and I wanted to create something that was beyond the regular resume and clear file. .Frank Scott: Who is the target customer for his design?. Emma Campbell : Prospective employees and design agencies and studios. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Emma Campbell : I treated this publication as more than just an editorial but as a piece of artwork in itself. Instead of just showing my work I wanted my portfolio to be something that people could keep and even look through when they are looking for reference of inspiration themselves. .Frank Scott: Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?. Emma Campbell : I used the Adobe Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. .Frank Scott: What is the most unique aspect of your design?. Emma Campbell : I think it would have to be the cover and how it can be used to house items. I have my business card inside but I could easily include other promotional materials such as stickers, a small print of one of my piece, a pull out resume/cover letter etc. .Frank Scott: What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?. Emma Campbell : The main challenge was just designing something for myself. Designing for yourself is the hardest thing, especially when it's something that completely represents you. The challenge was working out when I was happy with what I had designed and to stop doing revisions. .Frank Scott: How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?. Emma Campbell : I was invited to submit my work by a member of the A' Design Award and Competition team who had seen my work. I was grateful for the invite and realised it was definitely a competition I would like to partake in. .
